Global Monitoring for POPs and other Persistent Toxic Chemicals

There are many national programs that monitor chemicals in the environment and in human blood and breastmilk. Internationally there are two global monitoring initiatives focusing on POPs and other persistent toxic chemicals. These are:

- The Regional Based Assessment of Persistent Toxic Substances Project (RBAPTS)

-
The Global Monitoring for Persistent Organic Pollutants (GMP)

Together, these programs investigate the presence and levels of nearly 30 persistent toxic substances.

For more information on these international initiatives click on the green tabs, RBAPTS or GMP
or visit the United Nations Environment Program website at http:/www.chem.unep.ch
